Developing the future ICT infrastructure technologies, market, and policies

CMI’s 6th annual International Conference: Developing the future ICT infrastructure technologies, market, and policies was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on November 28-29. The conference was organized by Center for Communication, Media and Information Technologies (CMI) at Aalborg University Copenhagen. The participants represented representatives of regulator, academia, and industry.

The main theme of the conference revolved around ICT market, technologies, and society. Among discussed topics were the following: the future ICT infrastructure developments, impact of multi-layeres platform networks on technology developments, M2M communication, smart city services and smart home systems, bandwidth requirements in 2020. In addition a forthcoming book “The broadband book project” was presented. Authors introduced the analysis of the situation with broadband in 12 EU countries.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology was represented by Andrés Laya and me. Andrés presented a paper on “Migration strategies in network deployment to support M2M communication”, which was written in co-authership with Ashraf Widaa and Jan Markendahl.

During the conference I have presented initial results of a research on “Obstacles to investment in mobile payments” focused on the perspective of merchants. The main findings are observation of different strategies that retailers take regarding a decision to deploy mobile payment in their stores and a fragmentation in mobile payment market.
