Norway to switch off FM radio in shift to digital

Norway is set to become the first nation to start switching off its FM radio network next week. According to the article below this decision is a both risky and unpopular leap to digital technology.

In Sweden, the Government descided in 2015 to postspone the closing of the FM radio ude to several reasons, including issues such as:

  • Cost of replacing 10-20 milion FM receivers to DAB
  • Reduced coverage

Anyway, Norway has decided to go on a different path and its success or failure will be watched closely by other countries considering whether to follow suit.
